Data coding for ham radio use
Tom Pankonen (KD9SAT)
Saturday, 3:30PM -4:30PM Data Coding for Ham Radio Use Presenter: Tom Pankonen, KD9SAT I run a STEM (science technology engineering and math) program through local area schools. We do 12 classroom visits where we work with students learning coding. Students build a data logger that we fly on high altitude balloons. This is not a paid program it’s brought into the schools via volunteers. We track the flight with aprs and wspr trackers and are working on some picture/video streaming this year over 70cm if all goes well. This is a great program to introduce students to amateur radio and one of our grads is building an amateur radio satellite right now at MIT! I’d love to share our story with other amateurs and share our curriculum if others want to do a similar activity in their community. Everythng is published is licensed under the Apache license on GitHub. We are working with 5 schools this year and over 260 students and the programs growing. Thanx, Tom KD9SAT
